Micky van de Ven will remain at Hotspur Way through the international break after withdrawing from the Netherlands squad for their upcoming Nations League fixtures.

Micky Van de Ven missed Newcastle defeat

Van de Ven picked up a knock towards the end of the first half against Everton and even though the Dutchman was seemingly moving without any discomfort in the second half of that game, the injury eventually saw him sidelined for Tottenham’s trip to St James’ Park.

The 23-year-old’s absence was certainly felt, with the Magpies managing to get in behind Spurs’ high backline on a few occasions, most notably for Alexander Isak’s goal on 78 minutes, which gave the home side all three points.

Ange Postecoglou clarified in his post-match press conference that Van de Ven’s injury is not serious and that the defender was ‘close’ to being fit for Sunday’s clash (Football.London).

Micky Van de Ven pulls out of Netherlands squad

However, it has now been confirmed by The Netherlands FA that the Tottenham man has withdrawn from the squad for their upcoming Nations League fixtures against Bosnia and Germany.

Van de Ven has been replaced in the squad by Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, who has received his first call-up.

Part of the reason that Ange might have not wanted to risk Van de Ven against Newcastle was to ensure that he could stay at Hotspur Way during the international break and be 100 per cent fit in time for the North London Derby.

I fully expect Micky to start against Arsenal in two weeks.
