UNBELIEVABLE NEWS:Brendan Rodgers has been suspended…..
Celtic returned to the top of the Scottish Premiership table on Sunday.
After Brendan Rodgers guided his team to a valuable point in the Champions League in midweek, Celtic backed it up by beating Motherwell 3-0 at Fir Park.
For large parts of the game, it was pretty comfortable for the champions and they did it without their captain, Callum McGregor.
Luke McCowan opened the scoring for Celtic with a brilliant run and finish, but it wasn’t until the 56th minute that the away side put a cushion between themselves and their opponents.
Alistair Johnston was the man to head home for the Bhoys, before substitute Adam Idah scored from the bench and was then on the end of a horror tackle from Liam Gordon, who was shown a straight red card after a check from VAR.
Chris Sutton was on commentary and wanted to give flowers to one player, in particular.
Alistair Johnston has ‘really improved’ under Brendan Rodgers
It was a midfielders-like run from the fullback, as he ghosted into the penalty area and timed Alex Valle’s cross to perfection to head home.
It’s actually a goal you would have seen under Ange Postecoglou during his time at Celtic, with that type of quality still showing here.
Sutton explained that Johnston has ‘really improved’ with those forward runs and now he has got his just reward, as he told Sky Sports Football (27/10/24 at 4:10 pm).
“Really patient work from Celtic, going from side to side and looking for those little openings,” said Sutton. “You could see the run, perfectly timed by Alistair Johnston and he powers that header in.
“I think it’s a part of his game under Brendan Rodgers that he has really improved. Those forward runs. He ghosts in. And a bit of breathing space for Celtic. Terrific ball and a clean header.”
