Two Newcastle players facing suspension risk ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal games

Premier League rules state that any player who receives five yellow cards in their first 19 fixtures will be given a one-match suspension – and two Newcastle United stars are already one caution away from suspension.

Joelinton was already on four yellows heading into Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Brighton, but Dan Burn joined him on four after he was booked against his former club over the weekend.

As a result, both Joelinton and Burn are one booking away from a one-game ban. Should either see yellow in Sunday’s trip to Chelsea, they’ll be ruled out of our home clash with Arsenal on Saturday 2nd November (the five-yellow card rule does not carry over to Carabao Cup games so they wouldn’t miss next Wednesday’s match).

Should they avoid a caution at Chelsea but receive a yellow card against Arsenal a week on Saturday, they’d miss our trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday 10th November.

We have options in midfield if and when Joelinton receives his next yellow, with Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff and Lewis Miley all waiting in the wings. At centre-back, you’d expect Lloyd Kelly to come in for Burn if he is booked in any of our next 11 games.
