Todd Cantwell takes clear swipe at Rangers fans with Blackburn Rovers comments

Todd Cantwell could not help firing another shot at the Rangers fanbase in his latest comments to Blackburn Rovers supporters.

The 26-year-old saw his wish granted in the summer transfer window as he completed a deadline-day move to Blackburn after handing in a transfer request at Ibrox.

Cantwell has endured a slow start to life in the Championship with only one assist in five appearances, but he sent another jibe at the Rangers faithful when lauding his new supporters in an interview with the club’s website, as reported by Lancashire Telegraph [10 October].

He said: “It’s very important to feel loved. Whenever you have the backing from a fan base, it gives you another level of confidence.

“For a player like me and others in the changing room, you need that to bring out the best version of yourself.”

Rangers supporters only want the best from the players

The Rangers supporters have pointed the finger of blame at a number of players in recent times. Vaclav Cerny has become the latest scapegoat, with abuse forcing the forward to delete his Instagram account.

Cerny was pictured snapping back at the fans at Ibrox in the 1-0 win against Hibernian after a string of lacklustre performances in front of goal, but has since endeared himself to the supporters after his brace in the 2-0 win against St Johnstone on Sunday [6 October].

Cantwell has refused to keep quiet on his time in Glasgow since his move to the Championship and has openly criticised Philippe Clement and now the Gers supporters since his summer departure.

The midfielder was just as, if not more, open to the idea of an exit from Rangers this summer than the club. His tendency to continuously berate his former employers suggests Cantwell has no love lost north of the border.

Clement will be relieved to be rid of the midfielder despite an underwhelming start to the season as there is one less toxic presence in the Ibrox dressing room.
