Jack Grealish and Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez were teammates at Aston Villa before the Englishman was sold to the Cityzens for a staggering $125 million.
Recently, Aston Villa faced off against Manchester united in a thrilling encounter during Matchday 17 of the Premier League, where the Villans managed to secure a convincing 2-1 victory over the City side.
Despite the triumph, a moment from the match quickly went viral, highlighting a tense exchange between Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez and City midfielder Jack Grealish.
During the game, Grealish approached the referee to complain about the lack of added time in the first half, an instance that saw the Argentine getting involved with both players.
Both players engaged in a heated discussion, which continued down the tunnel as teammates tried to separate them to prevent the situation from escalating. Now, days after the incident, details of the verbal exchange between the two former teammates have emerged.
According to the English outlet Daily Mail, Dibu shouted at his rival, questioning if he thought he was better, referencing Grealish’s transfer from to Manchester City in the 2020/21 season.
“Martínez yelled at his former teammate: ‘Do you think you’re a big shot now, huh?’ as they made their way down the tunnel,” the renowned outlet reported.
In response to Martínez’s remarks, Grealish held up three fingers as a symbol of the three titles he has won with Manchester City under the management of Pep Guardiola.
