Son Heung-min deal done: Tottenham have huge deal arranged
Son Heung-min’s contract at Tottenham might have already been extended.
Son hasn’t been at his best in recent weeks, with fans urging the club to cut ties with the South Korean, who is thought to be “frustrated” in North London.
As things stand, the 32-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the season when his current deal expires. As reported by The Times (21 December), Spurs continue to insist that they will exercise their option to extend Son’s contract by one year, although nothing has yet been made official.
However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks an announcement is all that is left.
“It might already be done,” Wenham said.
“I remember last time his contract was signed and announced, a lot of people seemed to know that was done before it was finally announced. Perhaps the people around him don’t leak that sort of information. Tottenham kept his last renewal quiet for a really long time, so maybe it is already done.
“If it hasn’t been signed, then you’d expect clubs to be on the phone with him from 1 January, and agents in the background already. However, we’re not hearing those stories. Therefore, for me, it’s probably already done, the one-year extension.”
Son Heung-min’s contract extended by Tottenham?
It seems logical for Spurs to extend Son’s contract by another year.
While he hasn’t been at his best this season, the forward is still the club captain and an important player behind the scenes. In addition, he contributes a lot off the field too, with thousands of fans travelling to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium every season to catch a glimpse of him and buy his shirt.
Therefore, Daniel Levy in particular will certainly be keen to keep Son around for a bit longer, with the chairman constantly looking for ways to boost the club’s revenue.
