Siegrist undergoing Rapid Bucharest medical after Celtic accept offer

Celtic goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist will undergo a Rapid Bucharest medical Monday after agreeing terms, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old has reached a full agreement to join the Neil Lennon-managed club on a permanent deal.

The Scottish giants have granted Siegrist permission to jet out and finalise the deal in the next days.

The goalkeeper is set to work with former Celtic manager Lennon, who is currently in charge of Rapid Bucharest.

Siegrist is under contract at Celtic Park until 2026 but has become a forgotten man at the Scottish Premiership club.

The Swiss goalkeeper joined Celtic back in 2022, but he’s made just two competitive appearances in that time.

Rapid Bucharest have reached a full agreement to sign Benjamin Siegrist

Siegrist has plenty of experience to offer, having played 60 games in the Scottish Premiership throughout his career.

The majority of his game time came at Dundee United, where he kept 52 clean sheets in 145 appearances.

Since signing for Celtic, he’s been a bit-part player who has been on the fringes of the squad while other goalkeepers have had more minutes.

Following Joe Hart’s retirement, Celtic have been very active in the transfer window regarding goalkeepers.

The Hoops have signed Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo, opening the door for Siegrist to depart.
