SO SHOCKING;Newcastle united rejected Callum Wilson offer

Newcastle United will entertain offers for Callum Wilson if they can bring in a replacement in the January transfer window.

This is according to former Man United, Sunderland and Aston Villa scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the club will consider offers as a result of his injury record.

Football Insider revealed on 27 September that the Magpies are preparing to receive offers for the striker in January amid interest from Fulham and Brentford.

However, they will only let the 32-year-old leave if they are able to find a suitable backup in the transfer market amid concerns about their squad depth.

Earlier this season, both Wilson and Alexander Isak were ruled out through injury, forcing Eddie Howe to name Anthony Gordon as his starting striker.

As a result, the club’s hierarchy are keen to avoid similar issues, and feel a reliable backup to Isak should be towards the top of their list of priorities.

Wilson’s reoccurring injury struggles have been a long-standing concern at St James’ Park, and with six months remaining on his contract, they were prepared to assess his situation at the end of the season.

However, it is now said they could look to cash in on his signature in January in a last-ditch attempt to raise funds, but only if they can land a replacement.

Newcastle United line up Callum Wilson replacement in transfer twist

Since his move to the Magpies in 2020, Wilson has missed a combined 96 games for club and country, and his lack of availability has only served to cause issues with squad depth.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in player recruitment at the top level, has insisted that Newcastle will now look to move him on in January, but feel they will have to strengthen the position before he is allowed to leave.

Wilson’s always been in a tricky position with injuries,” he told Football Insider.
