Shocking News:Scotland media reacts to what Rangers ace John Souttar did up against Cristiano Ronaldo

John Souttar was given his plaudits as the Rangers defender starred in Scotland’s goalless draw with Portugal on Tuesday (15 October).

Coming up against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Diogo Jota and Bruno Fernandes, the 28-year-old kept a clean sheet as the Scots earned an unexpected point in the Nations League tie at Hampden Park.

Souttar played during the 2-1 win over Croatia, coming into the side due to injuries, performing well and keeping his name on the teamsheet to face Portugal at home.

Handing him a 9/10 rating, The Scotsman [15 October] wrote: “Like his defensive team-mate, Souttar won the majority of his headers and kept Portugal at bay despite constant pressure from their star-studded frontline.

“Has performed well over the break against two extremely tough opponents following his return to the starting XI.”

Lowering his rating slightly to 8/10, Edinburgh News [15 October] wrote: “Handled the pressure of dealing with Ronaldo alongside Hanley remarkably well. Passed out well from the back too.”

The Daily Record [15 October] wrote: “Grant Hanley and John Souttar marshalled the defence brilliantly while Craig Gordon was on form behind them when required.”

Souttar has been rather impressive for the Light Blues so far this season, emerging as one of Philippe Clement’s most important players.

If the Gers are to have any chance of pipping Celtic and Aberdeen to the Scottish Premiership title this term, they will need to maintain their water-tight defence, with Souttar at the heart of it.

Partnering with Robin Propper, and Leon Balogun waiting on the bench in case of emergency, the pair look to be creating quite the bond at the centre of defence, boasting five clean sheets in their last six games.
