Shocking news;Rangers best player has signed a new two-year contract..

Connor Goldson is set to jet back to Aris Limassol for a medical as work continues to complete his Ibrox exit, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reported via its live blog on Thursday (25 July, 20:15) that the Light Blues and the Cypriot club continue to work to try and finalise a deal for the Englishman to end his time in Glasgow.

Once the terms of the deal have been agreed between the two sides, Goldson will fly back to Cyprus to undergo a medical with his new side and end his time as a Gers player.

Reports had suggested this move was unlikely to happen this summer, with Championship clubs also understood to be interested in securing the 31-year-old who was dropped by Philippe Clement last term [Heart and Hand, 25 July].

Will Connor Goldson exit Rangers amid Aris Limassol transfer update?

There has been plenty of confusion over whether or not this deal would happen this summer, but in the end, it looks like Goldson will finally end his time at Rangers after plenty of transfer speculation.

While he has been a fairly reliable presence throughout his time in Glasgow, last season saw him suffer a fairly severe dip in form that ultimately saw him taken out of the starting XI by Clement before he suffered an injury.

Goldson will need replacing before the new Premiership season gets underway as the Gers are now short of defensive depth, but this move feels like the right solution for all parties in the grand scheme of things.

Clement has got another big wage off of his bill, the Gers will receive some sort of transfer fee for the defender’s services and Goldson will be able to enjoy his football and play regularly week in and week out.
