SHOCKING NEWS;Luton Town confirm the return of former player few minutes ago…
Danny Hylton became Charlton Athletic’s 1000th professional player on Saturday during his late cameo appearance in the 2-2 draw with Wrexham.
The 35-year-old had been without a club since being released by Northampton Town at the end of the 2023-24 season but joined the Addicks as a player-coach in mid-September.
Hylton, making his debut for the club, was subbed on for Connor Coventry in the 81st minute and helped Nathan Jones’ side secure a last-minute point, with Matty Godden smashing home a 97th-minute penalty.
“Any time it went into him, Wrexham couldn’t clear the ball because he used his body well.
“He’s been brought in to help Gassan [Ahadme], Miles [Leaburn] and Daniel Kanu, because a fully fit Danny Hylton five years ago would be a magnificent signing for this football club.
“It’s just age-wise. He’s been brought in for two things. One, to give me an impact [off the bench] because he does. Secondly, to help others with what he does because he’s such a clever frontman.”
Nathan Jones has made no attempt to dismiss that Charlton Athletic are set to add experienced frontman Danny Hylton to their squad.
We broke the news on Friday that the 35-year-old, who has been training with the Addicks since pre-season, was set to sign a short-term deal.
Hylton is poised to get the same length contract as centre-back Dan Potts, who was confirmed as a Charlton player on Friday.
He spent six seasons on their books before two campaigns with Northampton Town, who released him at the start of the summer.
