Shocking News:Leeds United must be braced for January transfer bids after Ao Tanaka displays…

Ao Tanaka has become a revelation in the Leeds United midfield, but that has left this fan worried top-flight clubs will be circling in January.

Hailed as “unbelievable” by Daniel Farke following another flawless display in United’s 3-0 win over Luton Town, Tanaka has fast-become an undroppable cog in the club’s automatic promotion push.

Signed from Fortuna Dusseldorf for just £3.3million on transfer Deadline Day [YEP, 30 August], Tanaka has been so impressive in just 14 appearances that he’s now one of the first names on the team-sheet.

However, I worry that despite Tanaka being on a four-year deal at Elland Road, Bundesliga and Premier League clubs could swoop in and table offers that – owing to their PSR position – are impossible for the Whites to turn down.

Leeds United must do all they can to keep Ao Tanaka in January

Should clubs in the English, German and other top-flights come calling for Tanaka in January, it’s hard not to think that many will be kicking themselves for not identifying and picking him up earlier.

Signing the Japanese international for just £3.3m has proven to be an absolute steal, and I don’t find it surprising that other clubs will be looking to rectify their own failures to buy him before the Whites did.

Any fee demanded for Tanaka now – despite being just a handful of games into his United career – would surely see this summer’s fee multiply several times, and that would skyrocket if Leeds are promoted.

However, given the extremely tight PSR constraints put on EFL clubs, those in the higher leagues looking to test Leeds’ resolve on Tanaka doesn’t look out of the question, even with promotion on the line.

For myself and every other supporter to truly take 49ers Enterprises seriously though, United’s owners simply cannot give in to January bids if their top-two push is to be successful and not disrupted.

Tanaka is already one of the lynchpins of Farke’s table-topping Whites with the busiest period of the season well underway, and every single fan wants to see him lift the title in Leeds colours this May.

In other Leeds news, Ricky Gervais has name-checked the Whites when discussing how he rediscovered his love for football.
