The latest Nottingham Forest news as fresh information emerges about contract renewal negotiations with Chris Wood
Nottingham Forest are said to have opened talks with striker Chris Wood over the signing of a contract extension.
Not long ago it would not have been wild to suggest the 32-year-old should be let go once his current terms came to an end. But as is the unpredictable nature of football, that attitude has changed with Wood’s glorious start to the 2024/25 campaign.
The New Zealand international, signed from Newcastle United for £15m last year, trails only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (11) and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo (8) with seven Premier League goals scored to date. This blistering form has seen rumour spread of a desire to retain his services beyond their expiry date at the end of the season.
Now, it is claimed by The Telegraph that these conversations are underway at Forest. Key details are also emerging for the first time as part of this process, which the club hope to wrap up ‘quickly’.
Firstly, it is said that the striker’s new deal is ‘likely’ to be two-and-a-half years in length. Yes, Wood will turn 33 in December and by the end of this term he would actually be 35, but Nuno Espirito Santo and Co value him highly as one of the English top-flight’s ‘underrated traditional No.9 forwards’.
Also hinted at are further contract renewal talks with Ola Aina, as the defender – who has also impressed in his team’s fast start to the 2024/25 term – is also out of a deal come next summer as things stand.
