Jeff Stelling is absolutely sure that Sean Dyche should not be sacked after David Moyes was suggested as a possible replacement at Everton.

Dyche has worked wonders at Goodison Park since his appointment in January 2023, becoming a respected figure on Merseyside, especially after leading the Toffees to Premier League safety last season.

While the Blues were facing the risk of relegation for much of the last campaign, they eventually finished 14 points above the dropzone, and that included an eight-point deduction due to PSR breaches.

Speaking via talkSPORT on Monday (19 August, 7:47am) – with a caller suggesting that Moyes could take over – Stelling said: “I don’t think Sean Dyche is the problem there.”

In complete agreement, Ally McCoist said: “Far from it.”

Sean Dyche is certainly not the problem as Everton woes continue

An opening-day 3-0 defeat to Brighton would not have been the dream result to begin the new campaign with, especially after such a positive set of savvy transfers during the summer window.

While Dyche’s job has often been questioned, Moyes is definitely not the answer, even despite his good work with West Ham United over the last few seasons.

The biggest concern at Goodison Park should be the ongoing financial situation, which goes hand-in-hand with the takeover saga, rather than stick the blame on Dyche.

The manager’s playing style is not for everyone, it is fair to say. Many will sum it up as “route one” but it clearly got the right results last season after going five games unbeaten to lead them away from the relegation zone.

With the new signings, especially Jesper Lindstrom and Iliman Ndiaye in attack, Dyche just needs time for his squad to gel together before positive results begin to emerge at Goodison Park.

The majority of fans will remain patient with Dyche, but there always be the ones wanting something new or something different.

In other Everton news, Ally McCoist shared a new relegation verdict after a “surprise” he saw against Brighton.
