SO SAD:Philippe Clement confirmed the suspension of two key players few minutes ago..

Rangers have now received the crucial third delivery of steel for their delayed Ibrox building work, according to the Daily Record.

The paper reported via their website on 19 August that John Bennett’s provisional timeline to return from Hampden Park by the end of September is on course to be realised.

Playing Hibs at home on the final weekend of next month (28 September) is now a possibility if all the work on the Copland Road stand is completed, with the delayed deliveries of all the steel now made.

Rangers have played their previous three homes games at Hampden Park during a stuttering start to the season under Philippe Clement, with the disruption said to have a “massive” effect on the players by former Gers ace and Ibrox News pundit Derek Ferguson.

Philippe Clement could have Rangers side back at Ibrox next month

Two wins from three across a trio of competitions isn’t an appalling return for the Light Blues at the national stadium.

But although the 2-0 League Cup win over St Johnstone was somewhat improved the results don’t necessarily tell the story of the faltering form.

The controversial 2-0 defeat to Dynamo Kyiv came in arguably the most important of the three matches and saw Clement miss out on crucial financial help as he looks to force some extra transfer business over the line at the end of a frustrating window.

It is quite possible that the half-finished squad would also be struggling to put in convincing performances back in Govan anyway in the circumstances, but playing in front of a Hampden crowd that wasn’t full instead of being driven forward on an Ibrox European night could have made the difference.

Clement has various players still at the club who he says have been told they can leave, and the Belgian has therefore struggled to bring in reinforcements as the deadline nears.

With such uncertainty around the squad the last thing he needed was being forced out of Ibrox for the opening two months of the season so the sooner they can return the better now the infamous steel is in town.

In other Rangers news, one player mooted to come in and “save” the struggling side has drawn a definitive journalist reaction.
