Sad news for Celtic: He will not return
Celtic are set to kick off their Champions League journey next Wednesday, with their opening fixture at Celtic Park against Slovan Bratislava.
As they enter into the group stages of Europe’s elite competition, the draw has presented them with a mixed bag of challenges and opportunities.
They will face formidable away matches against Borussia Dortmund, Atalanta, Aston Villa, and Dinamo Zagreb, while RB Leipzig, Club Brugge, and BSC Young Boys will visit Glasgow.
A subplot for the upcoming match against Slovan Bratislava involves a familiar face: 34-year-old Vladimír Weiss
The former Rangers star, who once played against Celtic in an Old Firm cup final, will be returning to the city, this time in a Bratislava jersey. Weiss had a significant impact during his season at Rangers, including providing an assist for the winning goal in the 2011 League Cup final against Celtic.
Now 34, he’s playing with Bratislava and is set for the trip to Glasgow next week.
In the Champions League qualifiers for the side, he played 8 games, scoring twice and assisting a further twice. In the league, he’s yet to score or assist in his three games, only one of which he’s started.
Hopefully, he won’t be causing too many problems for Celtic next week.
