SAD News for Celtic: he will never return due to…

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will be happy with his business in the summer transfer window that has formed the basis of a squad where he has adequate depth across key positions.

Admittedly, managers and supporters always want a little more than what they bargain for, but eight summer signings for the Bhoys have helped to add some extra solidity to the existing core.

While this campaign has yielded just one loss on the pitch, Celtic have had to contend with injuries concerning Cameron Carter-Vickers and Greg Taylor, among others, which has opened up space for the likes of Auston Trusty and Alex Valle to enter the frame.

Nevertheless, Rodgers would’ve been all too delighted to welcome back Carter-Vickers off the bench against Motherwell last week after recovering from his recent foot problem.

Leaving the Irishman with a burning Celtic question to answer in central defence, pundit Michael Stewart has expanded on why he will be relishing the choice of picking between his options.

Speaking on the Scottish Football Social Club, Stewart believes Rodgers won’t be too hard-pressed when deciding who to pick in central defence for Celtic as injuries and suspensions are bound to create an even distribution of game-time.

He explained: “That’s the beauty of stiff competition within the squad; it raises the bar, and it causes the challenge to those who are in possession of the jersey. You need to keep performing, you need to get better or there are others that will step in.

“I agree with Alan; I agree that at the moment, he’s sticking with Scales, but the thing it, football, for clubs like Celtic, they’ve got so many games, and there are inevitably going to be injuries, like Carter-Vickers at the moment.

“There are suspensions as well, so I think with everyone fully fit and available, he would be going with Carter-Vickers and Scales at the moment, but there are plenty of games to be able to shuffle it around so that they’re all getting plenty of games.”

Celtic have the strength to deal with changes in circumstance

Every squad is going to be stretched over the course of a season, but Celtic have an adequate level of cover to ensure any future absences aren’t majorly detrimental.

For instance, Adam Idah is awaiting a scan result and may need to spend some time out on the sidelines depending on the determination, but Kyogo Furuhashi’s availability alongside Daizen Maeda’s experience through the middle offer enough to get by without panicking too much.

Ultimately, Celtic are well-stocked across the field and will hope to add further strength in January, aiding their mission to thrive across several competitions.
