Speaking in his press conference, Rodgers indicated there will be no room for ‘sentiment’ when picking the Celtic side he hopes will topple Aberdeen in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final.

He explained when asked about the centre-back situation: “I’ve got a few decisions to make in terms of the team. I think all the players have value in playing.

“Every player because a lot of the guys have been playing have shown good value in how they’ve been playing and how they’ve been performing.

Brendan Rodgers won’t mess about against Aberdeen

There is no time for tinkering with the threat of Aberdeen set to create a compelling clash at Hampden; Celtic know they need to deliver and Rodgers will act accordingly.

In all likelihood, Carter-Vickers is almost certain to start, seeing as he has played such a prominent role in the Bhoys’ success over recent years.

Whether Scales or Trusty joins him is another question, but it is a squad game, and everyone will have their part to play in seeing Celtic over the line.
