Ryan Yates rejected terms and conditions and insisted leaving

Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates is said to have put pen to paper on a new contract.

The deal the Nigel Doughty Academy graduate signed in 2022 was due to run out next summer. But according to The Athletic, he has now agreed terms until June 2028.

Yates has made more than 200 appearances and has scored 18 goals for the Reds. He was a key part of the 2022 promotion-winning side and has continued to be integral since the step up to the Premier League.

He featured a total of 40 times in all competitions last term as a third successive top-flight campaign was secured. And after coming close on several occasions, he finally netted his first Premier League goal when he scored in a 3-1 win over Sheffield United in May.

“I am very happy for him, of course. He has made 201 appearances for the club, we know what he means and what he feels,” head coach Nuno Espirito Santo said of Yates afterwards.

“I’m happy, but I value more the hard work he put in in the middle of the park with all the duels. When the game was scrappy, Yates gives us these things. This is what we count on Yates (for) but I am happy with the goal.”

Former boss Steve Cooper appointed Yates as vice-captain. The 26-year-old regularly wore the armband last season, leading the team out when skipper Joe Worrall did not feature and then went on loan to Besiktas in February.

Earlier this summer, defender Willy Boly signed a new deal. He is also under contract until 2025, with the club holding an option to extend by a further 12 months. Jonathan Panzo, Harry Toffolo, Ola Aina, Alex Mighten and Chris Wood also have a year left on their current deals.
