Rangers turn to plan B as up to four new signings on the cards before August 30
Rangers legend Barry Ferguson believes the club could still wind up bringing in three or four new signings before the end of the transfer window.
The former club captain acknowledged that crashing out of the Champions League to Dynamo Kyiv in midweek is a blow, it at least allows them to focus on “plan B” in the transfer market.
The club have had a busy window already but there is near universal agreement among pundits and supporters that an injection of quality is needed.
Writing for the Daily Record (16 August, page 49), Ferguson weighed in with his view on what might happen next.
“It’s time to bring out plan B and to execute it before the market shuts down for another six months. So we’re about to see exactly what plan B looks like,” he said.
“I still have hope that it will result in three or four quality additions being brought in between now and the end of the month.”
One deal or many for Rangers?
Over the course of the last few years, Rangers have built teams around star attractions. While there’s a lot of quality littered throughout the squad, there tends to be one player that stands out amongst the pack. Regardless of whether or not you believe in that philosophy, it definitely seems like there’s a spark missing in this squad.
For Clement, it feels like the majority want to see him stay. He’s just signed a new deal and he has a management style that could really work with some of the bigger personalities in this team. Still, when you’ve scored just three goals in your opening four games, questions have to be asked.
They’re starting to find their feet from a defensive standpoint which is a real positive. In equal measure, though, this is a league where they can’t afford too many slip-ups. With just two weeks to go until the window shuts, three or four signings may be quite ambitious.
