Rangers transfer update as second club now shows interest in Ianis Hagi

Rangers could be set to benefit from a transfer battle between two Romanian clubs for Ianis Hagi, according to Football Scotland.

Blair Meikle reported [23 August] that along with Rapid Bucharest – who have made their interest in Hagi known since earlier this week [Emanuel Rosu, 21 August] – fellow Romanian outfit Universitatea Craiova are now on the scene.

Hagi has been bombed to the Gers’ B team since his return from an uninspiring loan at Alaves in Spain last season, with Philippe Clement keen to dispense with a clutch of players including the attacking midfielder in order to further strengthen the squad.

Rangers could host transfer battle for Ianis Hagi

With Clement almost desperate to sell the likes of Hagi, Todd Cantwell and Scott Wright to clear the way for key arrivals, the saga for the Romanian could turn out positively for Rangers.

Despite the 25-year-old’s clear talent and encouraging Euros in the summer, there is no future for him at Ibrox – thought to mainly be down to a clause in his contract if he is to play just one more game for the club, which would be a big financial hit.

Now the emergence of two clubs in his homeland may offer a route to the exit door, which may well benefit the career of Hagi and the Light Blues.

It is a shame for matters to have turned out this way – the clause in Hagi’s deal was inserted under a different management regime and the player himself has been content with staying in Glasgow.

There looks to be a resolution – however, how much time is left for Clement and Nils Koppen to secure vital additions to the squad is still a question to be answered.
