Rangers receive Cyriel Dessers approaches as Ibrox transfer exit bids update emerges

Rangers have received “tentative” approaches over a deal to sign Cyriel Dessers but none have been followed up with cash offers, according to Chris Jack.

The journalist reported for the Rangers Review website on 7 August that “money on the table” had not materialised from the interest in the Nigerian international.

Jack had previously reported on 3 July potential suitors for the striker across Europe and in Saudi Arabia but the season is now under way without a departure and Dessers has now started both games for Philippe Clement.

He scored a 94th minute leveller away to Dynamo Kyiv on 6 August to take a 1-1 score back to Hampden Park, and while Danilo and Hamza Igamane aren’t ready to contribute he is set to continue leading the line.

Philippe Clement still relying on exit-linked Rangers striker

If the bids haven’t come in then there is no decision to make for Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen and Dessers will stay.

Whether that rules out the signing of another striker to upgrade on the 29-year-old when he is in one of his more infuriating runs of form remains to be seen.

The sale of Sam Lammers to FC Twente was reported to have given the manager the cash to make a run at Lawrence Shankland from Hearts [Daily Record, 29 July].

Dessers has certainly got qualities as he showed vs Kyiv but is not the ideal number one, but whether Clement likes Shankland, Albion Rrahmani, or anyone else it may be difficult to carry four strikers.

That puts pressure on Danilo to regain form as soon as possible and Igamane to develop quickly unless a buyer materialises for the Brazilian.

But one way or another it seems the entire picture at the striker position, on the pitch at off it, revolves around Dessers at this stage.

In other Rangers news, Clement has been slammed over another exit-linked Light Blues player after the Kyiv clash.
