Rangers fans can get Philippe Clement sacked – ‘He’ll be gone’

Scott McDermott believes Rangers fans could get Philippe Clement sacked if his team loses against Aberdeen on 30 October.

The Gers are coming off the back of a rather embarrassing 1-0 away loss to Kilmarnock and are set to face FCSB and St Mirren before their clash at Pittrodie but this hasn’t stopped the media mooting potential exits for Clement.

Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (23 October), journalist McDermott shared that he thinks if things turn “toxic” between the fans and the management at Ibrox, it could spell the end of Clement’s tenure.

“Rangers and Celtic cannot be project clubs,” McDermott said. “This is a unique city, it’s a unique league, it’s a unique situation, probably unlike anywhere else in Europe.

“How Philippe Clement hasn’t grasped that yet, I’m not quite sure but the time that he’s asking for, you just don’t get it.

“If it turns toxic and they lose at Pittodrie, which let’s be honest, you wouldn’t bet bad money on Rangers to win at Pittodrie currently but if that game goes against them and there’s a slip up at Hampden in the semi-final or there’s a bad result in Europe, where do they go from there.

“You can want to stick with a manager and have a long-term vision all you want but if fans are battering the door down, then he’ll be gone, it’s as simple as that.”

Philippe Clement is running out of time at Rangers

Many may still believe that Clement is the right manager for Rangers going forward, however, if results continue going against them, it’s hard to see how the Gers can afford to keep him as their boss.

John Gilligan has already backed the Belgian publically on Sky Sports (24 September) but that doesn’t mean his thought process can’t be changed.

Clement himself asked for fans and pundits to give him until October so that all of his summer arrivals would be fully integrated into his set-up, now we’re here, it doesn’t feel like the changes he promised have been made
