Rangers delight as positive transfer development emerges on Lewis Travis signing from Blackburn
Rangers clearly need players in all through the squad so indications that Lewis Travis is close to signing for the club are a positive development, according to Derek Ferguson.
The Blackburn Rovers midfielder has been shown round the Gers training ground by director of football Creag Robertson according to the Scottish Sun on 23 August.
Philippe Clement has struggled mightily to secure late-window deals with exit-linked players still at the club so the prospect of the 26-year-old Englishman signing is something ex-Ibrox man Ferguson hopes does go through.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “If he has been spotted, I think there’s been a few players spotted up in Glasgow so far. It’s the way it’s been over the last two or three weeks. There’s been a lot of speculation about players.
“What is clear is that Rangers need players in as soon as possible. This transfer window, we’ve got a week to go and it’s clear, it’s not rocket science.
“Rangers are lacking in quality all over the park and in that squad. So if that’s the case [Travis has visited] it’s music to my ears.
“Because it’s clear to see they need players in, they need more competition, so that’s a good sign if he has been spotted at the training ground.
“Hopefully that’s something that can come to fruition.”
Philippe Clement missed Kenny McLean, Joan Jordan at Rangers
As Ferguson suggests it wouldn’t be the first time that a player has apparently been seen gearing up to join the Light Blues only for it not to happen so supporters will have to wait until there is a confirmation of anything.
But if progress is being made in the final week of the window it will not be before time, with the season already well underway with Clement operating a half-finished squad.
Travis, 26, ended up on loan at Ipswich last season as the Tractor Boys were promoted to the Premier League but has already made three Blackburn appearances this term as captain to take his total to 227 for the club.
He would provide Clement with the senior midfielder he has coveted amid pursuits of Kenny McLean at Norwich and Joan Jordan at Sevilla, and could give young duo Mohamed Diomande and Connor Barron a vital platform to create from.
