Rangers board make Philippe Clement sack decision at Ibrox

Philippe Clement still has the backing of the Rangers hierarchy despite the 1-0 loss at Kilmarnock on Sunday 20 October, according to Chris Jack.

The Gers suffered a disappointing defeat at Rugby Park with Marley Watkins scoring the winner to increase the pressure on the Belgian.

Jack admitted that the view of the board should keep Clement calm for now, something he must take advantage of.

He wrote: “Clement retains the backing of those above him and that should give the 50-year-old stability.

“Whether he can capitalise on that or not remains to be seen.”

It hasn’t been the dream start to the season for the Belgian, who is starting to come under pressure for his seat in the dugout at Ibrox.

This has only been made worse by the defeat against Derek McInnes’ side, where the Gers never looked like winning.

Despite getting 15 shots off, it was the home side who created the better quality chances and arguably should have had more than one on the day.
This has seen the Light Blues fall six points behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the title race which is likely to have a detrimental effect on Clement’s job if it gets any worse.

With that being said, the uncertainty in the boardroom at Ibrox may work in Clement’s favour as John Gilligan goes in search of a new chairman.

As a result, the interim is unlikely to sack the 50-year-old which could see him keep his job for the coming weeks and months regardless of any frustration.
