Rangers best player has declared his career is over due to…

Rangers snapped up Cifuentes back in 2023 after the Ecuador international had blossomed into one of the MLS’s stand-out talents at Los Angeles FC, after all.

And the manner in which Cifuentes has flown out of the blocks in Greece has that ill-fated Rangers spell looking more and more like a rare blot on the midfielder’s copybook.

“Cifuentes is very good, even if he didn’t play much at Rangers,” Markos Dounis, who scored 22 goals in three league seasons at Aris until 2018, tells Metrosports. “He has shown very good glimpses.”

Top of the table heading into Sunday’s trip to Panathinaikos, Aris have won four in a row.Clement had already allowed Cifuentes join Cruzeiro on loan in the spring.

And when Aris came calling at the start of August, the Rangers boss had no qualms green-lighting a deal which should see the Ibrox outfit make an impressive profit on a player who had very little to show from his one and only season in Scotland.Vaclav Cerny scored twice in what was the winger’s best display yet in royal blue. Hamza Igamane opened his account off the bench. Nedim Bajrami impressed again alongside Jefte on the left-hand side.

And Clement could not speak highly enough of Rangers’ Connor Barron as the number eight performed a convincing Ryan Jack tribute with a ferocious, remarkably well-rounded midfield showing.

Barron’s arrival over the summer served to push Jose Cifuentes, one of the leftovers of that stomachache-inducing Mick Beale gorge, further down the pecking order. And, eventually, out the door. With the narrative threatening to turn sour for Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen, Rangers’ 4-0 hammering of FCSB in the Europa League could hardly have come at a better time.

Just days after the 1-0 reverse at Kilmarnock left Rangers six points adrift of Aberdeen and Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, the Glasgow giants cruised past their Romanian opponents in a performance which not only lifted the pressure on Clement but also provided justification for Koppen’s transfer market methods
