Rangers ‘astronomical fee’ mooted for James Tavernier amid late Besiktas interest

Rangers ‘astronomical fee’ mooted for James Tavernier amid late Besiktas interest

Dan Bardell believes Rangers must keep James Tavernier unless they receive an “astronomical fee” from Turkey.

The transfer window for the Super Lig closes on Friday (13 September), leaving limited time for business to be completed.

This could see Besiktas push to sign the Gers captain with his former boss Giovanni Van Bronckhorst reportedly tabling a presentation to the right back [Fotomac].

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks the Light Blues should keep the 32-year-old unless an offer is made that they can not turn down.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “It’s quite clever for the Turkish window to stay open to take advantage of the other windows being shut.

“Rangers at the moment can’t be letting go of a player with that experience. It has been an up-and-down start to the season for Tavernier but even still.

“They can’t bring in a replacement so I don’t see the benefit unless an astronomical fee is involved.“

Rangers could still sell James Tavernier to Besiktas

The Turkish transfer window ends at midnight on 13 September leaving Tavernier limited time to make a move if that is his plan.

Reports have suggested that the ex-Wigan Athletic man has turned down a move to Besiktas due to having “unfinished business” at Ibrox [HITC].

With that being said, if a late deadline day offer were to come in from the Super Lig giants, there could be a temptation to complete a deal.

Given how the season has started for the Englishman, it may not be a surprise that a transfer away could have come at a perfect time.
