Rangers ace one step closer to Ibrox exit as club announce potential £1.5m deal

Time is be ticking away with the deadline in sight, and Rangers are still hoping to get a handful of players off their books before Friday’s 11pm deadline.

Ianis Hagi appears no closer to finding a way out of his Ibrox nightmare.

Stripped of his number seven shirt and exiled from the first-team picture by Philippe Clement, Rapid Bucharest have confirmed their interest but would struggle to stump up the finances required.

FCSB – the club formerly known as Steaua Bucharest – removed their name from the frame this week.

At least, when it comes to another player dumped to the fringes of Clement’s squad, Rangers are heading in the right direction. Blackburn Rovers are closing in on Todd Cantwell – who handed in a transfer request in July – with manager John Eustace admitting that he is a big fan of the former Norwich City playmaker.

Scott Wright is another who has been told he is free to go.

The Rangers winger is expected to undergo a medical at Birmingham City shortly, per Football Scotland.

Scott Wright could leave Rangers for Birmingham City

While finding themselves in the third tier of English football after their relegation in 2023/24, a Birmingham side coached by ex-Celtic assistant Chris Davies are ambitious and big-spending under their American investors.

The Blues have already snapped up Ben Davies on loan from Rangers. And he should be reunited with Wright before Wigan Athletic arrive at St Andrew’s this weekend.

The former Aberdeen wideman may have taken on big step towards his proposed switch south of the border on Thursday. Birmingham confirm that they have sold fellow winger Siriki Dembele to Championship newcomers Oxford United, thus opening the space in Davies’ squad for another player who does his best work on the flanks.

The Oxford Mail believe that Dembele has set the Kassam Stadium back a club-record fee worth somewhere between £1 million and £1.5 million

Wright, like Davies, has struggled to really establish himself under Clement. The former could fall even further down the pecking order if a new winger arrives between now and Friday night, with Rangers keen on Norwich City’s £2 million-rated attacker Abu Kamara.
