Rangers 3 Dundee 0 as it happened as two goal hero Cyriel Dessers targets another Hampden final

Rangers couldn’t wait to get away from Hampden Park and it was a happy Ibrox return as they dispatched Dundee with a dominant 3-0 win to secure a quickfire return to the National Stadium for the League Cup semi-finals.

 

Philippe Clement and the Rangers fans ended a four-month wait to play at their home again and raced into the lead through their number nine Cyriel Dessers with a smart, reactive finish from close range.

 

Captain James Tavernier marked his return to Ibrox with a finish from the penalty spot past Trevor Carson before Dessers got his double with a side-footed finish on the end of Nedim Bajrami’s whipped delivery.

Dundee were aiming to make sure it was them who advanced from the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final but Tony Docherty’s side failed to threaten Jack Butland’s goal much with Simon Murray’s second-half chance the best they had to offer

 

Tony Docherty’s Dark Blues were actually the last visitors to Ibrox when the sides met in the Scottish Premiership during the league run-in, with Rangers coming from behind to win 5-2 after being given an early fright but it was plain sailing this time for the hosts.

 

The League Cup is the only silverware Rangers picked up in a season which, at one point, had them chasing a treble. Clement’s men will be desperate to keep it in the Ibrox trophy room when they return to Hampden for the semi-final.
