Ranger head coach receive a heartbreak
Andy Halliday has told Rangers and Celtic to go and sign Dundee gem Lyall Cameron, admitting there is snobbery when it comes to signing Scottish players.
Despite speculation late on in the summer transfer window, reports suggest that the Light Blues were never close to a deal to sign the 21-year-old on transfer deadline day [Scott Burns, 30 August].
The Gers have seemed reluctant to sign players from other Premiership clubs in recent years and Clyde 1 pundit Halliday has urged the Light Blues to consider Cameron suggesting he would cost less than £1million.
Speaking on the Open Goal YouTube channel (8 October, 1:40:30) he said: “See [Luke] McCowan signing for Rangers or Celtic from Dundee, for that’s a no-brainer signing.
“Dundee fans won’t like this, but Lyall Cameron is the next one. Go and sign him, how much is he going to cost? Less than a million quid.
“I’m not talking about snobbery from Hibs. I’m talking about Rangers and Celtic.”
Si Ferry replied: “Do you think Lyall Cameron could go and play for Rangers and Celtic?”
Halliday responded: “I’m not saying this is the player that’s going to come in and make the immediate impact for you, but when I look at the squad players that Rangers and Celtic have signed over the years and spent good dough on, surely go and sign these boys.”
Will Lyall Cameron exit Dundee amid Rangers transfer speculation?
So much has been made about the Gers’ reluctance to deal with other Premiership clubs in recent transfer windows and it does really feel like they are missing out on some incredibly exciting players.
While the signing of Connor Barron this summer was a step in the right direction, most supporters would prefer to see the Light Blues break the bank for a Lennon Miller or Lewis Ferguson instead of taking a punt on a player with no experience in the division.
