Philippe Clement to step in as Rangers and Gustavo Puerta transfer update emerges
Philippe Clement may need to convince Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Gustavo Puerta to join Rangers on loan, according to the Daily Record.
The news outlet reported on 18 August that despite a £3million transfer bid from Brondby, as claimed by Sun’s Alan Nixon, the Bundesliga outfit may just fancy a loan.
Tipsbladet reported on 12 August that Gers have themselves made a bid to secure the services of the 21-year-old Colombian.
Rangers must look to bring Gustavo Puerta to Ibrox
Puerta’s experience, albeit limited, in a title-winning Bundesliga squad with Bayer Leverkusen could provide Gers with a midfielder who has been exposed to high-level competition, which is crucial for their ambitions in both domestic and European fronts.
His potential to grow into a pivotal role in the midfield, as suggested by his technical abilities and range of passing, aligns with the club’s need for a player who can dictate play from deep positions, a role left vacant since Ryan Jack’s departure.
Moreover, signing Puerta on loan with or without an option to buy could offer Rangers financial flexibility, allowing them to assess his fit within the squad before committing long-term, which is especially prudent given their budget constraints.
This move not only addresses the immediate gap in midfield but also gives the side a much-needed boost in the title race.
Whether or not Puerta fancies a move to Ibrox and if Clement manages to convince him, remains to be seen.
