Philippe Clement confirms new Ridvan Yilmaz and Danilo injury update at Rangers before Dundee
Ridvan Yilmaz and Danilo have both been in individual training at Rangers as they continue their comeback from injury, Philippe Clement confirmed.
The Gers boss said in his 20 September press conference that the pair, plus Rabbi Matondo, are the three absentees for the return Ibrox against Dundee in the League Cup the following day.
The trio have been part of a significant injury list already this term, with Danilo forced to undergo a new operation on his knee after suffering a set back [Chris Jack, 5 September], and Yilmaz ruled out for a number of weeks after going off hurt against Dynamo Kyiv on 13 August.
But the Brazilian forward and the Turkish defender both appear to be making progress towards a return.
Rabbi Mantondo out long-term at Rangers after Celtic injury
Clement will be thankful for small mercies in that he hasn’t had any more significant names added to the unavailable list, in a campaign where he has only just got the likes of Oscar Cortes and Nico Raskin back.
While new arrivals have helped soften the blow of being without the injury-prone Yilmaz and Danilo it would be a boost for the manager to have them available sooner than later.
Hamza Igamane’s introduction to the squad was also severely delayed upon arrival this summer but the Moroccan striker provided a welcome cause for optimism with an eye-catching cameo off the bench at Tannadice last week.
Jefte has been solid off the bench after his move from Fluminense, although the picture in wide positions is less healthy with Matondo out.
The Welsh international was ruled out for as long as three months after going off in the Old Firm derby defeat at Celtic [Football Scotland, 5 September], the day after the Light Blues shunned Deadline Day transfer interest [Football Scotland, 30 August].
