Peter Grant has told Philippe Clement to restore Ianis Hagi to the Rangers first team while he looks for a transfer away from Ibrox ahead of the August deadline.

The Light Blues boss admitted ahead of the Gers’ clash with Dynamo Kyiv that the Romanian International was set to leave Glasgow this summer following discussions between the club and his agent [Chris Jack, 5 August].

Hagi featured for the Light Blues B Team on Monday (5 August) but Go Radio pundit Grant believes the Gers should follow Celtic’s example and continue to use the Romanian until he departs Glasgow.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (5 August, 26:40) he said: “Hagi, I’m not sure about. I would use him if he’s fit to play, to sell him as it’s similar to the situation with Matt O’Riley.

“If he’s good enough to be playing in your team and in your team, you’re better playing him. If he’s one of your best players, play him.

“Unless he’s being a bad pro off of the pitch which I wouldn’t expect because of his father’s background.”

Will Ianis Hagi exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer rumours?

Clement has made it clear that Hagi won’t be a part of his plans this season and unless something drastic changes between now and the transfer deadline that is unlikely to change in the coming weeks.

But even while the Romanian International is playing with the B Team, the Light Blues continue to pay both his and Todd Cantwell’s wages and could be lumbered with them beyond the end of August if a transfer isn’t completed.

If both players are fit, Rangers would be better off getting them in the shop window to not only help build up their fitness but also show potential suitors that they are worth spending a reasonable transfer fee on this summer.

Clement is unlikely to take Grant’s advice onboard when it comes to both Hagi and Cantwell, but it will be interesting to see what approach the Light Blues will take if they don’t manage to sell one or both players this month.
