Nottingham Forest target sets out transfer ‘dream’ after summer snub
Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as Reds summer target discusses potential future move
Striker Santiago Gimenez has left the door open to a future transfer, despite having rejected Nottingham Forest in the summer.
The Feyenoord forward was on the Reds’ list of targets as they sought to bolster their attacking options before the window closed. However, he has previously said he had a “lot of doubts” over switching to the City Ground.
Gimenez is currently sidelined with a thigh injury but seemingly still has his eye on achieving his long-term “dream”. The Mexico international, who has racked up 53 goals in 93 games for his club, says he continues to have his sights set on making it to one of the big leagues at some point.
“From the moment I arrived here, I was told, and I have seen, that this club trains and sells players,” he told Dutch publication 1908. “I have seen it in the last transfers, where 15 players were sold.
“That also gives you the confidence that if you do well, your dream of playing in the top five leagues in the world will come closer. I know that can happen at some point, and I try to train hard every day. We will see what happens.”
Earlier this month, Gimenez cited Feyenoord being in the Champions League as his main reason for snubbing Forest’s approach. He said the Reds were not the only club to try to lure him away.
“We thought it was the perfect time to leave after two years in the Netherlands, but in the end there were things that were not in our hands,” he said back then. “There were two offers on the table; the one that came up was from Nottingham and the truth is that we had a lot of doubts, but in the end we decided to stay at Feyenoord primarily for the Champions League.”
