Nils Koppen keen two add two more quality signings for Rangers after ‘fantastic’ Vaclav Cerny deal
Rangers transfer window has hit top gear in the last few days with Nils Koppen proving why he was the right choice as recruitment director.
Philippe Clement has been vocal about bringing in the right type of profile of player but also that experience and quality is needed in the squad.
For years Rangers have needed a nailed on first choice right-winger and in Vaclav Cerny, it looks like Koppen has pulled off a masterstroke.
Koppen and Clement delight in Rangers signing Vaclav Cerny
The 26-year old left-footer is an immediate upgrade on all of the other options for the right-hand side of the attack
Not only is he a proven goalscorer and creator, but he played in the European Championships with Czechia too.
Add this to his development at Ajax and it’s easy to see why Koppen targeted Cerny in the first place.
The transfer window started with a flurry of young talent arriving, phase two is bringing in players like Cerny with Koppen delighted to get his man:
“Firstly, I would like to welcome Václav to Rangers, and I am looking forward to seeing him as part of the squad.
“We have been working hard to bring in talented players with potential and Václav is a winger who has proven contributions in top leagues in Europe. It is fantastic to have him join the squad here.”
Philippe Clement is also, understandably, keen to see what the winger can do infront of a packed crowd at Ibrox:
Philippe Clement commented: “I am delighted to welcome Václav to the squad, he is an exciting player, with valuable experience in European football.
“He has already shown his attacking qualities during his time in the Eredivisie and at Wolfsburg and he will further strengthen our attacking options in the squad. I feel as a club and staff we can continue to help him as a player to reach new levels and I am excited to see what the season holds for him at Rangers.”
Rangers on phase two of transfer plan
Rangers fans have been demanding first team ready signings for some time now and Cerny will silence a few of the critics.
Like Joan Jordan, it is encouraging to see a different profile of player being targeted for key positions and ones that won’t need time to settle.
The Spaniard could be next to sign with reports claiming that Rangers are close to agreeing a deal for the 30-year old midfield playmaker – they just need to persuade him that Glasgow is the place to be.
Add Jordan and Cerny to being at an “advanced stage” for Man Utd’s Hannibal and you can see exactly what the Gers recruitment director is trying to do.
Lower the age profile of the overall squad, sell players who aren’t contributing or who won’t have their contracts extended and sign individuals who walk into the first team with proven experience at a higher level.
