Newcastle agree compensation deal with Scottish club for assistant manager

Newcastle United have some gaps to fill behind the scenes after some recent departures in the coaching setup.

The Magpies lost U18s manager Graeme Carrick who joined his brother Michael at Middlesbrough and then Ben Dawson departed from the U21 set-up to take up a new role alongside Steve Cooper at Leicester City.

Former Sunderland boss Jack Ross and Neil Winskill took over the Under 21 duties following Dawson’s departure, however, it now looks as though Newcastle have made their permanent appointment for the position.

According to The Daily Record in Scotland, the Magpies have agreed a compensation fee to allow their assistant manager, Diarmuid O’Carroll to join Newcastle.

Diarmuid O’Carroll will be familiar with Jack Ross

O’Carroll should already be familiar with Newcastle’s head of coach development, Jack Ross given his former role as St Mirren manager and he likely played a big role in acquiring O’Carroll.

The Under 21’s have suffered an indifferent start to the Premier League 2 campaign with one win, one draw and two defeats.

Despite having some top-quality young players, our stiffs do tend to struggle throughout the season and changing their fortunes has to be a big priority for the club bosses to help them attract more top young talent.

Newcastle are putting together a talented U21 side

Ideally, the plan would be to develop local kids through the ranks, but that’s a long-term process and for now, the plan seems to be identifying and recruiting young talent to develop within.

The Magpies recently brought in the likes of Manchester City starlet Alfie Harrison and Birmingham City’s Trevan Sanusi who is already making a case for first-team action.

Hopefully, under O’Carroll’s guidance, the reserves can start putting in performances to match the levels of the likes of Sanusi and the Miley brothers.
