Man City defender ‘can’t wait’ for upcoming match against Celtic

The next stage of Celtic’s USA Summer Tour takes Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys to North Carolina where Pep Guardiola’s Man City awaits them.

So far the Celtic team have visited The White House, three players have taken in a Major League baseball game and the club has also extended its charitable arm with a $10,000 donation to Washington DC charity, SOME.

And then there was the small matter of beating DC United 4-0 in the first fixture of the tour. So it has been productive so far but it is about to get seriously testing for Celtic when they face the Premier League cash-rich club.

Man City’s Rico Lewis ‘cannot wait’ to play Celtic

Pep Guardiola’s team is packed full of superstars. Erling Haaland, Kyle Walker and Jack Grealish await the Bhoys but young defender, Rico Lewis couldn’t hide his excitement as he spoke about the prospect of facing Celtic this week.

Lewis said [Man City FC], “Honestly, I can’t wait [to play]. It’s nice to be away but after a while, you want to get back out there.

“Training is good, but there’s nothing better than playing in a game.

“It’s a massive chance and opportunity for them [City’s Academy stars], but the main thing is you have to enjoy it.

“It’s not a normal thing for them to be in a first-team environment, especially at the level of City.

“First of all, they need to enjoy it and appreciate that they’re here, but work as hard as they can and be honest with themselves.

“I’m sure there’s so much quality in them that a few of them will get their chance.”

Celtic have only faced Man City twice in a meaningful fixture and that was back in 2016 when Rodgers’ team drew home and away with the Premier League club.
