Lennon Miller genuine bid update emerges amid transfer links to Rangers ahead of deadline

Rangers links to signing Motherwell sensation Lennon Miller aren’t expected to lead to any late bids going in ahead of the transfer deadline, according to Stuart Kettlewell.

The teenage midfielder’s manager said he “genuinely” did not expect any developments towards an exit, with the Daily Record (29 August) naming Rangers as the side linked above all the a move.

Football Scotland reported on 10 July that the Light Blues were scouting Miller during the preseason, shortly after picking up another young Scottish midfielder in Aberdeen’s Connor Barron.

Kettlewell said, via the Daily Record: “Genuinely not. It hasn’t been a topic of conversation. We’re all really comfortable where we are with Lennon at the club and for everyone else that’s performing well, to that matter.

“There hasn’t been a conversation broached, and we still work towards what we’ve always intended with players like Lennon and everybody else, which is keep playing, keep putting yourself out there for 90 minutes every week, keep developing as a pro, keep improving.

“A number of our players caught the headlines at the weekend for their performances, and that’s what we’ll look to continue. I don’t see any last-minute bids.

“We don’t need to move anybody out. If you look at my squad, I’m not really in a position to send anybody out at this minute in time.”

Rangers interested in Motherwell sensation after Connor Barron

Barron’s arrival after leaving Pittodrie should have proven to the Ibrox hierarchy that domestic talents are a worthwhile investment where available.

Philippe Clement has spent much of the summer looking to add a second midfielder, but pursuits of senior options have run aground with Kenny McLean staying at Norwich City and Joan Jordan in limbo at Sevilla.

The Belgian has had to wait for players to leave because he can bring replacements in, but with Ben Davies at Birmingham City on loan, Scott Wright agreeing to follow him on a permanent deal [Sky Sports, 29 August], and Todd Cantwell’s controversial situation coming to an end with a transfer to Blackburn agreed [Daily Record, 29 August] there is some late space opening
