Leicester City reportedly sign new contract deal with Argentina player
Leicester are busy preparing for the January transfer window and looking at ways they can improve the squad.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side have been leaking goals and while they have scored in almost every game this season, haven’t always looked their most threatening.
Deals can be hard to come by in the winter window but, with some funds available, the Foxes will want to give themselves the best chance possible to secure Premier League survival.
Thinking outside the box could help them land a gem and according to one report, South America may be a destination they look towards.
Leicester City reportedly plotting move for Valentin Gomez
In Alan Nixon’s latest Patreon column, he has reported that the Foxes could make a move for 21-year-old Argentine defender Valentin Gomez.
The Velez Sarsfield star is a left-footed centre-back who can also play in the left-back position if needed and has captained his country’s Under-20s team.
Gomez has featured 43 times in all competitions this season, scoring once, and could cost the Foxes anywhere between £8-10m.
Leicester’s head of recruitment, Martyn Glover, was known for targeting the South American market for new players and a similar approach could now be taking place in the East Midlands.
Lazio and Villarreal were among the sides who tried to sign him in the summer window.
Valentin Gomez compared to Nicolas Otamendi
Gomez seemingly has a bright future ahead of him and Héctor Alfredo Almandoz, a former reserve coach of Gomez’s believes he has all the attributes to make it to the top and drew comparisons to former Manchester City defender and World Cup winner Nicolas Otamendi.
He told Argentine outlet Bolavip: “Valentin has a cleaner and clearer exit, but both share that kamikaze attitude of throwing themselves into every ball. Nico had an incredible career, but Valentin has all the future ahead of him, and I see him as a worthy heir.”
