Leicester City linked with Japanese star who has already been scouted by Bundesliga clubs this season
The transfer window is just around the corner and work needs to be done at Leicester City.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will want to stamp his own mark on the squad after becoming the Foxes’ new manager on Friday.
Money will reportedly be available for the Dutchman to spend in January and after watching Leicester lose 4-1 away at Brentford, will certainly have identified weak points he wants to improve.
Leicester are likely to be in competition with several clubs, in the Premier League and Europe, so may look to think outside of the box and one reported target fits that criteria in Japan.
Leicester City send scouts to watch Japan U23 star
According to Japanese outlet Nikkan Sports, the Foxes have been to Japan to scout right-back Hiroki Sekine.
Sekine is highly rated through Japan and Asia and has represented his country at U23 level and in the Olympics.
Although he is yet to make his senior debut for Japan, the full-back was called up to the squad for their November World Cup qualifiers.
Leicester aren’t the only club interested in Sekine, with Bundesliga sides also rumoured to be looking at the defender, who has aspirations of a move to Europe.
Who is Hiroki Sekine? The defender linked with Leicester City move
Hiroki Sekine is a 22-year-old defender currently playing at J1 League side Kashiwa Reysol.
Sekine was born on 11 August 2002, making him 22 at the time of writing, and was born in the city of Shizouka.
He began playing football at Takushoku University before Kashiwa conirmed the signing of him in May 2023.
The defender was originally scheduled to join in 2025, however the club brought it forward by 12 months and he has since gone on to play over 30 times for the first team.
