Leeds United to make promotion-defining loan transfer of ‘Special’ Lewis O’Brien

Leeds United have been linked with a swoop for Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien and it could be the difference between promotion or not.

The midfielder was once described as “special” by former Leeds coach Carlos Corberan when the pair were together at Huddersfield Town back in 2021 (Yorkshire Evening Post).

Leeds will not be the only club interested in O’Brien- currently on loan at LAFC in MLS – with Corberan reportedly keen on a reunion at West Brom as per TEAMtalk (30 October), but the Whites have to do whatever it takes to acquire his services.

Lewis O’Brien would boost promotion hopes for Leeds United

It has been a good start for Daniel Farke’s side this season although they do find themselves five points behind league leaders Sunderland.

The January transfer window is just two months away and it could provide Leeds with the opportunity to use their pulling power to their advantage to attract O’Brien to Elland Road. If they do, their promotion chances increase significantly.

O’Brien is a fantastic player. An even better one at Championship level and should he end up at Leeds United, he would arguably become the club’s best midfielder.

With over 140 Championship appearances to his name, he knows what it takes to succeed in this division and is vastly experienced in English football.

His most recent spell in England came with Middlesborough where he played a crucial role in their 23/24 campaign, making 25 appearances and his ability was on full show throughout.

While Leeds will undoubtedly get linked with several other players in the coming weeks, O’Brien is certainly one that should spark excitement as the club look to achieve promotion back to the Premier League.

In other Leeds United news, Pascal Struijk has revealed why he decided to make the move to Elland Road.
