League Cup Last 16 Draw Details as Celtic Enter The Hat

The only domestic trophy Celtic missed out on last season, Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to win back the Scottish League Cup this term.

Last time around, the Hoops were eliminated from the competition at the last 16 stage; a shock 1-0 loss at Rugby Park early in the season ended any hopes of a double treble.

Rodgers will want to go much deeper in the League Cup in 2024/25, and he will find out his side’s initial opponents in their quest for glory this Sunday.

Indeed, the draw for the last 16 takes place live on Premier Sports following their coverage of Motherwell against Partick Thistle, which kicks off at 3 pm.

Celtic will be seeded for the draw, alongside Rangers, Kilmarnock, Hearts, St. Mirren, and the three group winners with the best records.

With the initial stage of the competition still ongoing, it remains to be seen who the Hoops could face in the last 16.

Regardless, the tie will be played on the weekend of 17/18th August, in between Celtic’s league matches away to Hibernian and St. Mirren.

Luis Palma’s tap-in proved the difference between Celtic and English champions Manchester City in a seven-goal thriller in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Hoops showed some encouraging signs in the victory, playing a wealth of attractive, attacking football which broke through City on several occasions.

All of Celtic’s goals were impressive, with Nicolas Kuhn, Kyogo Furuhashi, and Palma all getting on the scoresheet.

Post-match, the latter was speaking to several journalists in his native Spanish.

Rodgers walked by and hilariously interrupted Palma’s presser, quipping ‘El estrella, el estrella’, which translates to ‘The star, the star’:

Although he contributed towards 20 goals in all competitions during his first season at Celtic, Palma has several improvements to make going into his second year at the club.
