Lawrence Shankland: ‘Rangers have just settled out of court’ – pundit
Lawrence Shankland would be a ‘decent’ signing for Rangers but it’s unclear where the club will get the money to meet Heart’s asking price.
That’s the opinion of ex-Scotland forward Frank Mcavennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Mcavennie admits he ‘doesn’t know’ how Rangers could afford to sign the 29-year-old.
Rangers’ failure to qualify for the Champions League group stage after losing to Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday is a financial disaster for the club with the gap between them and Celtic set to widen.
Rangers don’t have the cash for Lawrence Shankland
Shankland has been arguably the best striker in the Scottish Premier League since moving to Hearts in 2022, scoring an impressive 48 goals in 74 league appearances for the club.
“The boy can score goals but he misses some chances”, Mcavennie told Football Insider.
“His strike ratio last year was different class considering the amount of chances he missed.
“One thing about the guy, obviously when he misses chances he doesn’t let it get to him because he’ll come back and score goals.
“He’s obviously a big threat, he’s decent, but he will miss the easiest of chances and score the hard one.
“I just don’t know where they’re (Rangers) getting the money from.
“They’ve just settled out of court for a lawsuit, they’re not going to make much money from their merchandising because they’re at Hampden and don’t have the big superstore like at Ibrox.
“All of that will hit them in the pockets.”
