Kevin de Bruyne makes brutal feelings clear after team-mate’s ‘absolutely absurd’ comments. Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne is currently fulfilling international duties with Belgium and despite the season being just weeks old, he has already been left disgruntledKevin de Bruyne has accused UEFA and FIFA for prioritising their bank balance as Manchester City’s scheduling row rolls on.
The reigning Premier League champions are facing a hectic calendar this year. They are set to play in this season’s Club World Cup in the USA, while the early season scheduling of the league and the Carabao Cup will force them to play two games in just three days. The new Champions League format will also see teams play two more games this season. City stars have been left furious by the packed fixture list and De Bruyne is just one of those to express his frustration. And the Belgian playmaker has accused world football’s organisers of attempting to line their own pockets instead of looking after players. Speaking while on international duty, he said: “The real problem will emerge after the Club World Cup. We know there will be only three weeks between the Club World Cup final and the first Premier League match. So, we have three weeks to rest and prepare for another 80 matches.””Maybe this year things will be OK, but next year could be problematic. The Professional Footballers’ Association in England and other player associations have tried to find solutions,” he added.
“The issue is that UEFA and FIFA keep adding extra matches, and we can raise concerns, but no solutions have been found. It seems that money speaks louder than the players’ voices.”De Bruyne is far from the only City star to speak out recently. Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva has also had his say and is furious at the amount of games scheduled throughout the season.”I think there are two completely different issues here,” he said. “When the players complain, people say that players can’t complain about the life they have. And they’re right because we’re fulfilling a dream and we do what we do. What is your take on Kevin de Bruyne’s comments? Share your thoughts in the comments below
“On the other hand, the schedule is completely crazy. We’ve just received the news that we only have one day off for the English League Cup game.
“We play Arsenal, we rest for a day and then we have the game against Watford. And if we don’t get knocked out of any other competition, we’ll play every three days for months. It’s been absolutely absurd.”In the Champions League, if you don’t qualify for the round of 16 you still have to play two more games. It’s true that the squads are bigger, but I’m not going to say that it’s easy.
“It hasn’t been easy. I spend very little time with my family and friends. The amount of games we’re subjected to is absolutely absurd.”
