Kasper Schmeichel reveals Celtic talks with Joe Hart before transfer decision

Kasper Schmeichel knows exactly what he’s getting into at Celtic after watching pal Joe Hart prosper up here.

The experienced Denmark shotstopper is the man Brendan Rodgers plumped for to replace the Englishman after the pair worked together successfully at Leicester, winning an FA Cup. Schmeichel and Hart are also very familiar with each other having come up against each other in England but also becoming friends during their time at Manchester City.

The 37-year-old has revealed that he spoke continually with the slightly younger keeper during his time lifting trophy after trophy in Glasgow and only had good things to say about the club. The Dane also saw the amazing bond Hart had with the Celtic fans and wanted a piece of that.

The new recruit told Celtic TV: “I’ve spoken to Joe many times during the time he was here and leading up to his retirement. Now he’s retired and become a pundit. He only had good things to say.

“I started to follow Celtic closer when he joined and saw the admiration the fans had for him. He got an incredible send off and it was fully deserved. They’re big shoes to fill.”

On the fans, he added: “I played in Scotland many years ago and know the size of Celtic. I came off my holiday and there were Celtic fans at the hotel I stayed at.
