JUST IN:Tottenham Hotspur announced the sudden departure of two key players…
Bryan King claims Tottenham youngster Alfie Devine will benefit from joining Belgian Pro League side Westerlo on a season-long loan.
The ex-Spurs scout believes the midfielder will be playing at a higher level in Belgium than he would have been with the club’s Under-21s.
As reported by Alasdair Gold via X on Tuesday (3 September), Devine was understood to be flying to Belgium on Wednesday (4 September) to seal a season-long loan switch to Westerlo.
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is happy with this transfer business.
“I would imagine the standard in the Belgian Pro League is far higher than the standard of the Under-21s or Premier League 2,” King said.
“It is a decent league and there are some decent players in Belgium too. A good move all around, for Tottenham and the player.”
Alfie Devine to join Westerlo on a season-long loan from Tottenham
This is a positive move for Devine, who will be linking up with future Spurs defender Luka Vušković in Belgium.
Considering most transfer windows across Europe are now shut, there wouldn’t have been many options for Devine. However, it didn’t look as though he would be set for a major first-team role in North London this season.
Therefore, it was important for the 20-year-old to move somewhere where he would be playing regular first-team football.
And the quality in Belgium will certainly help with the midfielder’s development.
Devine is a talented player who some Spurs supporters might have forgotten about. He can still have a big future under Ange Postecolgou, and it is therefore important that this loan move goes well.
