Everton’s start to the season has been a poor one, only adding to the unrest felt around the club.
It has been a particularly turbulent past few weeks for fans of the Toffees, forced to deal with another torrid losing streak in the Premier League that has ramped up pressure on Sean Dyche.
The 53-year-old has, admittedly, worked wonders whilst at Goodison Park, and deserves to be lauded as such.
However, planning for life without him seems to be the popular thing at the moment, as John Textor is now proving.
Taking to his Patreon, Alan Nixon outlined the following lengthy but hugely important update on Everton’s managerial pursuit: ‘Everton takeover bidder John Textor wants to bring in top coach Abel Ferreira if he wins control of the club.
American Textor is a huge fan of the Portuguese maestro who took Brazilian club Palmeiras to the title last season.
Textor has seen Abel’s work at close range as he owns Botafogo as part of his Eagle Holdings empire and is keen to work with him.
‘Abel is under contract until end of next year and would cost compensation but that will not put off Textor.
The American is trying to finalise a takeover deal and also dispose of his Crystal Palace shares, with fellow Americans Josh Harris and David Blitzer among those in the market for them.
‘Textor is dead set on landing Everton and that would put huge pressure on boss Sean Dyche who kept the club up under difficult circumstances last season but has got off to a poor start this time.
Highly rated Paolo Fonseca, another Portuguese coach, is also fancied by Textor but would be difficult to attract from AC Milan.
‘Textor has had his critics but seems a good judge of a manager. He was the driving force behind the appointment of Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace.’
Having spent his entire career within the Portuguese leagues, the former full-back is unlikely to be a name that is familiar to many.
However, he did spend five long years with Sporting CP before being forced into an early retirement due to unrelenting injury issues.
That is what has given him the edge over some other managers, with the 45-year-old having then jumped straight into coaching.
Starting with some youth sides and the B teams of Sporting and Braga, eventually he earned his first big break with the latter’s first-team, spending two years there before moving to PAOK in Greece.
His exploits have since led him to Brazil, where he has been impressing since 2020 at Palmeiras winning three trophies there.
With a current contract due to expire in 2025, aligning with the conclusion of Dyche’s current deal, Textor might be able to make a simple, cut-price managerial swap to get his man.
