Joan Jordan to Rangers transfer OFF as Ibrox side pull out of Sevilla loan deal
A deal for the 30-year-old is off the table after talks over a switch to the Premiership stalled
Rangers have backed out of a move for Sevilla ace Joan Jordan, writes Andy Newport in Berlin.
Ibrox boss Philippe Clement has rumoured to have spent the last couple of weeks on the chase for the 30-year-old midfield playmaker. Sources in Spain claimed Gers had shaken hands on an agreement with his La Liga employers that would see the Light Blues cover 60 percent of his Sevilla salary during a season-long loan in Glasgow. A £3.4million option to buy was said to be included amongst the deal’s small print.
But Record Sport understands talks have stalled and the move will now not be going ahead. It comes after reports in the Andalusian capital claimed the former Espanyol, Valladolid and Eibar ace was unsure about making the move to Ibrox despite having been told he’s no longer part of Sevilla boss Garcia Pimienta’s plans. The Gers have so far signed six new recruits this summer, with Vaclav Cerny the latest to check in following the early arrivals of Connor Barron, Jefte, Clinton Nsiala, Hamza Igamana and Liam Kelly.
But boss Clement has admitted bluntly he’s going to need a lot more if his side are going to handle the twin pressures of competing with Celtic for Premiership silver and qualifying for the Champions League. Asked if he expected new faces to be signed before this weekend’s opening league clash against Hearts at Tynecastle, the big Belgian said on Saturday: “That is a good question as a journalist but you know I can’t answer that because as long as there is no pen on paper, there is nothing in this world. It can be five minutes, five weeks… I don’t know, but there will be other signings.”
