James Tavernier told ‘time is right’ to exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer speculation

Mark Guidi has told Rangers captain James Tavernier that “the time is right” to leave Ibrox ahead of the transfer deadline.

The Light Blues skipper has been surrounded by speculation throughout the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting Trabzonspor have been keen to bring him to Turkey [Rangers Review, 23 July].

Although teh 32-year-old has insisted that his focus remains on the task at hand in Glasgow this term, Sunday Mail’s chief football writer Guidi believes it would be in his and the club’s best interest if he found a new club in the coming weeks.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show on Monday (5 August, 6:00) he said: “He needs a change, I don’t know if they thought to keep James Tavernier for the Champions League qualifiers and see if they get through.

“But I think it would benefit both Rangers and the player if he goes. I don’t like criticising James Tavernier because I think he’s been a fantastic servant and he’s got a lot to offer, but I think the time is right for him to move on.

“You look at that Rangers team, they’re lacking leaders, they’re lacking winners. That’s the bottom line.”
