James Tavernier: Major update on Rangers accepting Turkish offer –

Rangers will only accept a “silly offer” for captain James Tavernier this week, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gers defender, 32, has been widely linked with clubs in the Turkish Super Lig ahead of their window closing later this week.

Trabzonspor and Besiktas are reportedly interested in landing the right-back.

The Newcastle United academy product has also been linked with a Steven Gerrard reunion at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.

However, sources at the club say Rangers don’t want to lose their captain outside of the Scottish transfer window.

That is despite fan backlash against Tavernier’s performances in recent months – particularly after the 3-0 Old Firm defeat earlier this month.

Fans exploded at the Englishman after the defeat at Parkhead, with one supporter labelling him a “loser” outside Ibrox.

Rangers will only accept ‘silly’ Tavernier offer

Tavernier has already made seven appearances this term, notching two assists.

The 32-year-old has been a mainstay in the Rangers lineup since joining from Wigan in 2015.

He has made 467 appearances for the club, notching 125 goals and 131 assists and winning the Scottish Premiership in the 2020-21 campaign.

Tavernier is under contract at Ibrox until June 2026 after penning his last contract two years ago.

Philippe Clement’s side are already five points adrift of Celtic in the race for the league title.

In other news, Rangers fans call for “serious investigation” after “horrendous” injury blow.
